Linking Island Business – Succession Planning Seminar
PRESS RELEASE
VANCOUVER ISLAND ECONOMIC ALLIANCE
March 14, 2012
Business Succession Planning @ Linking Island Business event:
MNP will present as session to help guide people wishing to either purchase or sell small businesses at the Linking Island Business event April 11 in Qualicum Beach. The session will provide ‘how to’ information for prospective entrepreneurs qualifying business opportunities and for existing business owners who may be looking to exit their businesses.
“There are all kinds of small business opportunities on the Island that would be of interest to young entrepreneurs if they knew where to start and what to look for,” says Linking Island Business committee member, Garth Busch. “ At the same time, many business owners approaching retirement would benefit from knowing how to begin the process towards finding a successor.”
Presented by business advisors Lucie Gosselin, CA, CMC and Jenn Bogwald, CA of MNP, the session will address succession planning from the perspectives of both the retiring business owner and the prospective investor or entrepreneur.
“We meet lots of business people who intend to sell their businesses and/or commercial properties to retire, but have not yet developed a plan,” says Gosselin, a succession planning expert who specializes in developing exit strategies for business owners.  In fact they often  don’t know where to start.”
On the flip side, Bogwald focuses on succession from the successor’s point of view. “Quite often, younger people who are interested in owning their own businesses don’t know where to start or how to finance their new venture,” Bogwald adds.
According to event Chair, Kim Burden, “This Succession Planning presentation is exactly in the spirit and intention of ‘Linking Island Business’. VIEA is helping to ‘link’ entrepreneurs to information and opportunities needed for their business success.”
