A VIEA Focus in 2020 – Marketing, Communications & Engagement

VIEA continues to thrive and evolve. Now in its 14th year and having crossed several thresholds in its organizational development, it’s time to expand our reach and deepen our impact towards a vital and sustainable Island economy.

  • In 2012, featuring Mark Carney, then Governor of the Bank of Canada at the Economic Summit, helped establish VIEA’s credibility;
  • in 2015, put a stake in the round by producing a video and hosting an industry forum focused on the challenges and opportunities for inter-modal transportation. 2015 also saw VIEA’s first edition of the ‘State of the Island’ Economic Report – the only report of its kind in Canada;
  • in 2018, VIEA received Foreign Trade Zone designation for Vancouver Island. FTZVI is the only regional and non-government FTZ in Canada, and launched Island Good–the place brand for Island products;
  • And through all of these stages, VIEA has continued picking away at the Gordian Knot of the forest industry by meeting with stakeholders, hosting industry forums, and now leading the Waste Wood Recovery & Fire Mitigation pilot project in the Cowichan Valley.

We now have a new organizational development threshold to cross: Actualizing the full potential of these initiatives and broadening awareness of the existence benefits of these tools.

If you have expertise and experience in marketing, communications and/or government engagement and would like to volunteer to participate in 3-4 meetings to be scheduled February to May, we would love to hear from you.

Dan Hurley, Principal and Co-founder of the Hurley Martin Group, and VIEA’s Chair-Elect, will chair this ad hoc committee. We will choose a central location for these meetings and joining by teleconference will also be an option.

Thank you for your consideration. I’m happy to answer any questions you may have.

George Hanson, President
