Vancouver Island’s Mining Sector

Primary activities in this sector include mining and oil and gas extraction, as well as support services and mineral products manufacturing. Products mined on Vancouver Island include zinc, copper, gold, and silver, as well as other extracted products, such as limestone, from quarries and gravel pits. Though mining represents one of the smallest sectors of employment on Vancouver Island, it is very valuable in the communities where it does exist due to higher-than-average wages.
