Speaker Spotlight: Dr. Ken Coates

The Vancouver Island Economic Alliance is pleased to highlight Dr. Ken Coates, Chair of the Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Governance program at Yukon University, as a speaker at the upcoming Economic Summit.

Ken Coates is one of Canada’s foremost analysts of the challenges and opportunities facing the country. Raised in Whitehorse, his northern background provides original and creative perspectives on contemporary realities. Ken focuses on the impact of science and technology on society, particularly in the world of work. He has deep insights into the issues facing rural towns in Canada and, conversely, the rise of economically dominant city states. Ken has written extensively on Indigenous rights and economic development, and has worked with Indigenous groups across Canada and internationally. He is a leading commentator on Arctic affairs and northern development. Ken is currently the Chair of the Bachelor of Arts in Indigenous Governance program at Yukon University.

Nanaimo – Business Scale-up and Productivity (BSP) Information Session

Are you an innovative, globally-oriented business seeking to accelerate your growth? Then take a look at the Business Scale-up and Productivity (BSP) program. BSP can provide no-interest, repayable funding to high-growth firms to:

  • scale up and expand;
  • demonstrate and commercialize new technologies;
  • improve productivity; and,
  • enter or grow in international markets.

In British Columbia, BSP is delivered by Pacific Economic Development Canada (PacifiCan). In 2023, PacifiCan will be accepting expressions of interest from incorporated companies with staffed operating facilities in BC, between July 14 and September 22, 2023.
