5th Island Economic Report to be Released at Summit

Summit delegates will each receive a copy of VIEA’s 2019 ‘State of the Island’ Economic Report—the only third-party, non-government report of its kind in British Columbia ($195 value).

Susan Mowbray, Senior Manager of Economics and Research at MNP, will present key findings of the 5th annual ‘State of the Island Economic Report’ at VIEA’s Economic Summit, October 23/24 at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre. Susan has been leading research for the ‘State of the Island Economic Report’ since it was first produced in 2015.

A powerful tool widely used by public and private decision-makers to help inform their business choices, the Economic Report is made possible because of MNP sponsorship and by additional sponsorship from Nanaimo Airport, Coastal Community Credit UnionBC Ferries, and BC Ministry of Jobs, Trade and Technology.

“The Economic Report uses statistical information to show us what has happened and what we can expect in the immediate future. In 2015, we were alerted to a coming rise in tourism. In 2016, we saw the upward trend in population and housing prices. In 2017, evidence of positive movement in labour participation rates was exposed. And in 2018, the Report warned of skilled labour shortages. These and other trends can now be tracked. This Economic Report is essential reading for anyone serious about business on Vancouver Island.” — George Hanson, VIEA President.
