Resource Initiative: Empowering Vancouver Island’s Primary Industries
Vancouver Island Economic Alliance (VIEA) is proud to introduce the Resource Initiative, a forward-thinking approach to strengthening Vancouver Island’s primary resource sectors: Aquaculture, Forestry, and Mining.
This initiative builds on VIEA’s legacy of impactful projects, such as the Wood Industries Project in the forestry sector and our ongoing collaboration with Cascadia Seaweed in aquaculture. With a commitment to innovation and sustainability, the Resource Initiative serves as a platform to drive economic growth while fostering environmental stewardship.
What We Do
At the heart of the Resource Initiative is a dedicated committee composed of industry leaders, community stakeholders, and regional experts. Together, they identify and activate opportunities to:
-
Enhance Collaboration: Strengthen connections between businesses, Indigenous communities, government agencies, and post-secondary institutions to align on strategic goals.
-
Innovate Resource Practices: Promote cutting-edge technologies and sustainable methods in resource extraction, processing, and management. The initiative encourages forward-thinking approaches that enhance efficiency and minimize environmental impacts.
Why It Matters
The Resource Initiative is more than an economic driver; it’s a commitment to Vancouver Island’s future. By integrating economic, environmental, and educational priorities, this initiative ensures that Vancouver Island’s primary industries remain competitive, sustainable, and forward-thinking for generations to come.
