The Nanaimo Foundation represents a growing and vibrant community of over 132,600 residents located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. As a community foundation, we play a vital role in harnessing local knowledge and insights to connect donors and changemakers with meaningful solutions—both today and for generations to come. Nanaimo and the surrounding mid-Island region benefit from a dynamic economy that blends tradition and modernity, as well as rural and urban influences. From its roots in resource-based industries such as mining, forestry, and fishing to its expanding sectors in technology, tourism, healthcare, and education, the region thrives due to its resilience, innovation, and strong community spirit. The Nanaimo Foundation respectfully acknowledges and is grateful to work on the beautiful and unceded territories of the Snaw-naw-as, Snuneymuxw and Stz’uminus First Nations. The Foundation is committed to the principles of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and we seek to support the deepening of relations between the organizations we support, the Foundation and Central Island First Nations. For over 43 years, the Nanaimo Foundation is proud to be part of the long and impactful legacy of community foundations in Canada. With a deep commitment to community well-being, we steward philanthropic resources to create long-lasting positive change. Today, the foundation manages assets of over $13.8 million, ensuring sustainable funding to address pressing local needs. Our annual grant disbursements exceed $40,000, supporting a diverse range of initiatives that enhance the social, cultural and economic fabric of our community.
