Manufacturing on Vancouver Island
All manufacturing activities other than forest, mineral, and agri-food product manufacturing are grouped under this economic sector. They include, among others, ship and boat building, equipment manufacturing, machine shops, and architectural manufacturing. Most manufacturing businesses are clustered in the southern region of Vancouver Island, including the regions south of the Malahat and in the mid-Island between Mill Bay and Union Bay.
Manufacturing is supported by the Foreign Trade Zone on Vancouver Island (FTZVI). FTZVI markets Vancouver Island to attract international trade activity, foreign direct investment, and to expand production of goods for export. FTZVI also provides streamlined access to government programs to help export companies increase profitability through tax/duty deferral opportunities. Learn more about FTZVI.
